When we speak of 3D Technology we talk about stereoscopic vision or Stereo 3D (S3D), which gives a volumetrically impression – not just flat as a drawing or a regular picture or film.
We perceive the volume and distance of objects as our eyes see the world from two slightly different horizontal positions and our brain creates a spatial – three dimensional – impression. Regular picture and videos which are captured with just one lens show only one perspective to both our eyes and therefore appear flat. Similar as if we would close one eye. With 3D Technology it is possible to show two slightly different perspectives (one to each eye) to give our brain the necessary information for a volumetric – three dimensional impression.
3D Technology uses optical filters to show slightly different perspective views for each eye at the same area (Display or projections surface).
While common 3D Stereo uses glasses to separate the views through different filters for each eye, auto-stereoscopic 3D (AS3D) uses special optical filters attached to the screen showing the different perspectives directly in proper relation to our eyes. Therefore no special head-ware is required and many people can enjoy 3D images and videos instantly. In addition glasses-free or naked-eye 3D Displays often use up to 9 views to allow head movement without losing the 3D sight. The back draft however is that auto stereoscopic 3D Displays have repeating zones in which the 3D effect is reversed – the so called “flip over point”. A proper position and distance to the 3D Display is required, but usually easy to find. Read more about the actual technology of 3D Displays in our Knowledge Base.

As from our own 3D Displays we support over 80 devices by more than 20 vendors.
Through our Display Configurator they can be selected as 3D output device. Please refer to our officially list of supported 3D Hardware:

They can be used for 3D Displays / devices like, 3D TVs or 3D projectors. If your Mac has a proper Microsoft Windows installation and meeting all our other hardware requirements like Intel CPU and nvidia graphic card, VisuMotion software could be running. By now all our Software requires Microsoft Windows! There are no plants to re-create any of our products for MAC OS. If the system time was change, e.g. through a BIOS rest, the License Manger needs to verify with our license server that your system time is set back to the correct time. In case of a software license code (string) you just press the "Update Details" button to do this. In case of a USB dongle this function is disabled. You would have to press the "Enter License Code"! This will also verify your system time with our server. Of course a internet connection is necessary for this process!
Currently you have to send the dongle to our office in Germany via mail (best with isurance) so we can update it.

Sometimes Windows is not correctly recognizing the Display via DVI connection. Try to create a custom resolution in the nvidia Control Panel as outlined above. Or uncheck the option "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" in the Monitor tab of your Displays Advanced Settings.... Windows 7 comes with a new functionality to scale up the whole desktop appearance with all icons, fonts and windows. Don't increase this up to "Larger - 150%" !!! This will cause malfunction with VisuMotion software tools! | |||

Some content may show so called "tearing" (half displaying of frames that result in a kind of horizontal line) especially with fast and much movement in the video. This may also happen with a very powerful computer and "Eliminate Tearing" turned on. | |||

In order to use Xvid to create multiple AVIs for the MP4 Multiplexor or with the Video Optimizer you have to deactivate the "Display encoding status" in the [i]Other Settings[/i] as you can see in the screen shots. Through z.l.i.c.e. is using the codec multiple times at once it tries to open the encoding status multiple times, which fails. Check if your output dimensions for rendering an AVI or MP4 file are an integral multiple of 4. This is necessary for the MPEG4 compression. If not you will see a message in the "Node Settings" of the "Resize" filter or "ImageWriter". Also check the "Console" of z.l.i.c.e. if there are any error messages. If you are saving single image files over a network to a file server, this can slow down the whole rendering process. Try to save AVI files instead. This will create tempoary files on your local hard disk drive and just write the final AVI file per stream back to your file server. In this way the strain to server and network is lower during the render process. By default all animation key doing a cosine interpolation between each other. You should set the keys to interpolation mode to "Step" as outlined in the "Selector" description. Maybe the 3D image is "pseudoscopic". That means the order of views is reversed. This can be changed in the "Image Reader", "Pulfrich" input node, "Multiplex" Compositor and also in the "Unpack" filter with the "Reverse" option. No! Not right now, but maybe in a later release. Yes. But you always need footage to work with. For this reason multiple views created with a 3D program is recommended. But you also may use just single view footage and place them in different depths with the separation value. No. z.l.i.c.e.3D is designed to create stereographic image content with the best rate at flexibility and feedback during this process. Audio has to be mixed up in a common audio or video editing program. Then the final audio file can be multiplexed to a 3D Movie file with the "Tools" integrated in z.l.i.c.e.3D. You also have the option to display a audio wave form in the time bar and play it back with the 2D view port picture. Sure! You also can use z.l.i.c.e.3D with single view material only. In this case an error during the rendering created a broken AVI. You have to re-render your AVI stream(s) which caused the error message.
Check if your system meets all our requirements. This error can occure if not the latest Service Pack is installed for your Windows. Make sure you use the latest version of z.l.i.c.e.3D! Programs like PowerDVD can install components and settings for video decoding that can prevent z.l.i.c.e. from opening the MTS container format. Uninstall all programs that could influence the MPEG2 decoding / playback and restart the computer. Make sure you have downloaded and installed the DivX codec and also restarted z.l.i.c.e. In the 64bit version of z.l.i.c.e. DivX is not available, yet, as there is no 64 bit version of it. With 64bit z.l.i.c.e you have to use a 64bit MPEG4 encoder like Xvid.
Please verify that you installed the right version of z.l.i.c.e.3D which is required for the Stereo Tools.
This information can be found in the download descriptions or in the Stereo Tools setup. If you install only the 64 bit version of z.l.i.c.e.3D you may need to install the 32 bit version also for the Stereo Tools setup to recognize that the correct version of z.l.i.c.e.3D is installed.
Make sure the Setup runs correctly and complete.
Check if you installed the respective 32 or 64 bit version. Currently z.l.i.c.e.3D 3 must be installed in drive C, in Windows default programs directory in order for the Stereo Tools Setup to find it. This issue will be fixed in the next update. | |||

No. If you use the plugin only for rendering, no license is needed. Just the up to date Display Configurator must be installed with its License Manager. It is not essential which display or device is selected on the render computer. Just simply deactivate the "Rendered Frame Window" option in the MAX Render dialog. This seems to interfere with our own frame buffer call. So the frame buffer window will show up nevertheless and mental ray still gives an error message. But this and also the warning message from our plugin can be ignored. | |||

Maya is able to render almost any kind of cameras. The VisuMotion plugin works on a group of singel cameras, each for a view. With this you can select any of this so called sub-cams and render it with any render you want. Most of them are also using a similar render dialog for image resolution settings and such things. There Maya usually queues in all renderable cameras and so automatically all sub-cams of the plugin. The images of all cameras listed there will be saved, according to the settings above in the same dialog, during a batch render process. With Vray this is not yet possible. There you have to render each sub-cam in an own batch render process. Other renderers may have problems to translate the VisuMotion sub-cams in there render process. If the scene was created with an older version of the VisuMotion 3D Camera plugin it can happen that you get long loading times. Maya has a problem searching for map files. In this case you have to select all except the 3D Camera(s) and export it in a new Maya scene and recreate the camera. No. It is not possible to use our plugin with the PLE edition of Maya. Autodesk deactivated the functionality to use plugin that are from other providers than themselves. Our plugin also would be able to get around their watermark in the render output. So one more reason that Autodesk hardly would allow us to work with the PLE version. No. If you use the plugin only for rendering, no license is needed. Preview rendering for a "normal" Multi View 3D camera is only possible with Maya Software renderer by now.
